THE RULES

(Note: these have been slightly adapted since the first competition – it’s a learning curve!)

A MEGASAGA is a story of EXACTLY 100 WORDS including the title! As far as possible, there should be beginning, middle and end. To win the writer must evoke a powerful emotion, or describe interesting or unusual events, or people. She/he must show a good command of language and imagery! For examples, read the shortlisted entries for the last competition HERE:

Timing

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES is the last day of JULY 2019.

The SHORTLIST will be announced by 14th of AUGUST on jonelkon.com. Get your entries in early!

The WINNER will be announced on jonelkon.com on the LAST DAY OF AUGUST 2019 and the prize of £100 will be paid out to the best Megasaga writer.

FEE: Entries will cost £5.00 each.

Payment: I prefer payments through Paypal made to johnelkon@yahoo.co.uk on submission, OR if you want me to invoice you through Paypal I can do that.

If you don’t have Paypal, please ask FOR AN ALTERNATIVE METHOD in your email.

 

SUBMISSIONS

 Please email your entry to Johnelkon@yahoo.co.uk as an attachment or within the body of the email with the heading MEGASAGA ENTRY

Confirm in your email that you have paid through Paypal and I will get a notification from Paypal to that effect. I WILL SEND YOU A CONFIRMATION THAT YOUR EMAIL AND PAYMENT HAVE BEEN RECEIVED.

 

IF YOU ARE NOT SUCCESSFUL I WOULD BE HAPPY TO GIVE YOU THE JUDGES’ CRITIQUE OF YOUR WORK, so that you will get insights on how to improve your writing. Please request this in your email if you want this (free) service.

 

JUDGING

There are four judges: Myself, a poet, a screenwriter and another author of fiction.

The judges’ decision is final

Note: All submissions must be in English and presented double-spaced. Please do not enter into any correspondence until the shortlist is published. Once this has happened, everyone is free to add a comment to the post on the website. And I hope you will!

  • I know you said no correspondence but does a comment count? I am going to submit an entry again and want to know if I could use a story I sent before?

    • Hi Grigor, I should have mentioned please do not submit any material you have submitted for previous competitions. I am sure you can write another!
